Ο ομογενής επικεφαλής του Γραφείου Τεχνολογίας των ΗΠΑ (CTO), Μιχαήλ Κράτσιος (Michael Kratsios), αναλαμβάνει καθήκοντα Υφυπουργού Αμυνας στην κυβέρνηση Τραμπ, όπως αναφέρει ρεπορτάζ του πρακτορείου «Reuters».
Ειδικότερα, ο κ. Κράτσιος πρόκειται να επιβλέπει τον Οργανισμό Αμυνας Πυραύλων, τον Οργανισμό Προχωρημένων Ερευνητικών Εργων Αμυνας (DARPA), τη Μονάδα Καινοτομίας Αμυνας, τον Οργανισμό Διαστημικής Ανάπτυξης και την επιχείρηση DoD Laboratory.
Οπως προαναφέρθηκε, ο 34χρονος ομογενής κατείχε ήδη υψηλόβαθμη θέση στην αμερικανική κυβέρνηση, καθώς ήταν ο κορυφαίος σύμβουλος της πολιτικής για την Τεχνολογία του προέδρου Ντόναλντ Τραμπ.
«Το Πεντάγωνο αναζήτησε κάποιον με εμπειρία στον εντοπισμό και την ανάπτυξη νέων τεχνολογιών και σε στενή συνεργασία με ένα ευρύ φάσμα συνεργατών της βιομηχανίας. Πιστεύουμε ότι ο Μάικλ είναι το σωστό άτομο γι’ αυτήν τη δουλειά» δήλωσε, με αφορμή την τοποθέτηση του Κράτσιου, ο υπουργός Αμυνας, Μαρκ Εσπερ.
Ο κ. Μιχάλης Τζον Κοτσακάς Κράτσιος (Michael John Kotsakas Kratsios), όπως γεννήθηκε στο Σαλίσμπουρι του Μέριλαντ, πατρίδα της γνωστής οικογένειας Σαρμπάνη (Sarbanes), του πρώην γερουσιαστή Πολ Σαρμπάνη (Paul Sarbanes) και του μέλους του Κογκρέσου Τζον Σαρμπάνη (John Sarbanes).
Αποφοίτησε από το Πανεπιστήμιο Πρίνστον το 2008 και έλαβε Βραβείο στις Ελληνικές Σπουδές (Hellenic Studies Senior Thesis Prize).
Η μητέρα του Μαρία, μετανάστευσε στις ΗΠΑ από το νησί της Χίου. Ο παππούς του, πατέρας του πατέρα του, Τζον, μετανάστευσε στις ΗΠΑ από την Καστοριά. Μεγάλωσε μιλώντας ελληνικά στο σπίτι, τα οποία μιλά άπταιστα.
Ο Μάικλ Κράτσιος προτάθηκε από τον Πρόεδρο στις 4 Απριλίου 2019 ως «CTO» των ΗΠΑ και Βοηθός Διευθυντή του Γραφείου Επιστήμης και Τεχνολογικής Πολιτικής (Associate Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, OSTP).
Ο κ. Κράτσιος, υπηρέτησε ως αναπληρωτής επικεφαλής του Γραφείου Τεχνολογίας του Λευκού Οίκου. Υπήρξε ο βασικός σύμβουλος του Λευκού Οίκου σε θέματα Τεχνολογίας και εκπρόσωπος σε επίπεδο Υπουργού για τις ΗΠΑ σε διεθνείς συναντήσεις, όπως η G7 και η G20.
Καθοδήγησε μία ομάδα συμβούλων στρατηγικής για την πολιτική και τις προτεραιότητες των ΗΠΑ σε ένα εύρος τεχνολογικών θεμάτων, μεταξύ των οποίων: Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη, μη επανδρωμένα πτητικά συστήματα, αυτόνομα οχήματα, κβαντική υπολογιστική, τηλεπικοινωνίες, ευρυζωνικότητα εκτός πόλεων, επιχειρηματικότητα, ψηφιακή οικονομία, κυβερνοασφάλεια, προηγμένη κατασκευαστική και εκπαίδευση STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
